Dean: '"We were in a small room cranking out that song, and, at 119 decibels, the anxiety left rather quickly, as the paint peeled from the walls." About the first rehearsal with STP when they started working on No.4 in early 1999.
Robert: Going over to rehearsal (the first day), I was thinking that so much time had gone by, that we werent sure if we could still write songs together. There were these butterflies in my stomach (as I was) thinking, shit, can I still do this?. There had to be a strategy at that point. The first song that I wanted to play to get back in the mood of doing this was Down. Real simple, real basic. We got it together in the first day and that helped the feelings of (whether) we could still do this.
Eric: "Our first rehearsal affirmed that the STP chemistry was working. We did 'Down' and 'Church on Tuesday' within like an hour and a half," Kretz said. "It was like, 'OK, this is a good day, and it isn't even lunchtime yet.' It's like riding a bike ... you get right back on it, everyone's got their own designated positions, and it's like, 'Boom!' It's stupid it's so simple, and that's the way it should be."\
Robert: We had some songs that we wanted to rock to kinda get the band going again after a lay-off. I've always been the motivator for that. I'll bring a song into pre-pro, show everyone the riff and beat, and turn it up to 10. That's what we were going for here.
Dean: We went into pre-pro for No.4. It was the first song we worked on day one for the album. And we worked on "Sour Girl" the same day.

Pleased to meet you
Nice to know me
What's the message?
Will ya show me?
I've been waiting
A long time, now
Now here's the answer
You're all mine now
Ya, I've been waiting for my Sunday girl
Ya, I've been waiting for my Sunday girl, now
Pleased to meet you
Nice to know me
What's the message?
Will ya show me?
I've been waiting
A long time, now
Now here's the answer
You're all mine now
Ya, I've been waiting for my Sunday girl
Ya, I've been waiting for my Sunday girl, now
Will you follow me down now, down now
Will you follow me down now, down now
Will you follow me down
Ya, I've been waiting for my Sunday girl
Ya, I've been waiting for my Sunday girl, now
Ya, I've been waiting for my Sunday girl
Ya, I've been waiting for my Sunday girl, now
Pleased to meet you
Nice to know me
What's the message?
Will ya show me?
The way down town? |
