Scott: "Sex Type Thing is pretty much a song about rape and sexual persecution of women in our macho, male-dominated society and the attitudes towards women, sexually, as objects and not as equal human beings. I'm putting myself in the mind of the typical American Jerk with a totally unoriginal attitude about women."
Scott: "This song is really not about sex at all. It's about control, violence and abuse of power."
Robert: When I hear this, I think of being in the studio and listening to basic tracks. I remember going, "Shit, man, we have something going on here."
Dean: This song reminds me of "In The Light" by Zeppelin. I was in my driveway and heard that riff, so I went inside and came up with this, all the time totally prompted by "In The Light."
Ian Gittins: "'Sex Type Thing' was one of the most compelling songs on Core; and one that was to recur and haunt Weiland in interviews for the next two years. Only in the summer of 1994 did he reveal that he'd written the song after a woman he was profoundly in love with was raped by three football players following a drunken high school party. She'd been a virgin at the time."
